Nicole Kimberley-Staeheli, MATS has nearly 30 years of experience working with clients in crisis due to a variety of struggles including justice system involvement, victimization, addiction, and marginalization due to medical, social, and economic barriers. As the owner and lead consultant of Nicole Ranae Consulting, LLC, she combines her years of experience with the latest research to support helping professionals put evidence based, trauma informed, gender-responsive, and cognitive behavioral principles into practice.
Nicole Ranae Consulting, LLC partners with non-profit, county and state corrections, re-entry, chemical dependency, and social services agencies nationally and internationally to support helping professionals and their clients offering evidence based, trauma informed training and coaching services for professionals and interventions for clients designed to support lasting, sustainable growth and behavioral change.
Nicole is an experienced, dedicated facilitator and trainer of numerous evidence-based programs for justice impacted individuals including Thinking for A Change, Decision Points, and Moving On. Additionally, she is the co-author and principal trainer for the Domestic Violence Education Program, authored with Juliana Taymans, PhD., a research based, trauma informed, cognitive behavioral intervention for individuals who commit acts of domestic violence. She has written and trained extensively on the efficacy and need for trauma-informed interventions when working with justice impacted and marginalized individuals and is a continuing education instructor in trauma informed care at St. Paul College.
Nicole received her undergraduate degree from Hamline University and her graduate degree from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN and for several years was the chair of the Minnesota Cognitive Behavioral Network, a professional association dedicated to supporting the implementation of evidence-based practices. She has presented at numerous conferences on the importance of being trauma informed and utilizing cognitive behavioral and gender responsive interventions in facilitating long-term change for justice impacted individuals, the professionals and agencies that work with them, and their communities.
As the co-creators of the TIDES Supervision model Nicole and Joseph are thrilled to share this innovative approach with professionals seeking to support justice impacted and marginalized individuals. The creation of the TIDES Supervision model with its fusion for the transformative theories of trauma informed care and desistance and an unwavering commitment to translate these theories into actionable, practical tools is a testament to their steadfast belief in the power of change and the potential for healing and transformation inherent in every individual.
Co-Author and Principal Trainer
Provide training and now the co-author of this research informed intervention for clients who commit acts of Intimate Partner (Domestic) Violence integrating trauma informed, psycho-educational, and cognitive skills approaches. Originally authored by Dr. Juliana Taymans, PhD, and Carrie Gillespie in 2007 and revised by Nicole and Dr. Taymans in 2020. This intervention is available to agencies and individuals upon completion of training.
Contracted Lead Trainer: Moving On and Girls Moving On
Provide training throughout the United States for these evidence-based interventions for women and girls who are at-risk or involved in the criminal justice system. These programs integrate strength-based, trauma-informed, and relational theory to help women and girls build personal and social resources.
Contracted Master Trainer: Decision Points Program
Provide training and implementation support nationally for facilitators and trainers for this evidence-based correctional program constructed to address risk, needs, and responsivity for justice-involved individuals.
Course Instructor: Trauma Informed Care
Designed and teach continuing education courses for helping professionals regarding being trauma informed and responsive including a12 hour Trauma Informed Certification Course.
Trainer, Columnist, and Lead Event Coordinator
Part of a team of professionals who give continuing education presentations. Contributes to a quarterly Forensic Mental Health Insider publication as to being Trauma Informed in Corrections.
Coordinator and Specialist
My roles have included Probation Officer, Evidence Based Practices Coordinator, and Cognitive Programming Specialist with an emphasis on the development, training and facilitation of trauma informed, gender responsive, and cognitive behavioral programming for justice impacted and marginalized individuals.
Nicole trains staff and facilitates groups of Thinking for a Change (T4C), an integrated cognitive behavioral change program. T4C incorporates research from cognitive restructuring theory, social skills development, and the learning and use of problem-solving skills.
Nicole is a trainer and coach of Motivational Interviewing as first developed by William Miller and Stephen Rollnick.
To better understand the LSI family of assessment tools and support the varying needs of her clients, Nicole was trained in both assessment tools.
Nicole has extensive experience facilitating this researched based approach for working with challenging youth, developed by Dr. Barry Glick and Dr. John C. Gibbs.
Nicole is a facilitator of numerous trauma informed curricula and has extensive experience implementing trauma informed interventions to support justice impacted individuals.
As a gender responsive supervising agent and Women’s Unit Coordinator at a local correctional facility for many years Nicole became a certified assessor of the WRNA assessment in 2015.
